Saliva COVID-19 PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) Testing

IMC offers the Pre-Departure COVID-19 Travel Saliva Test in-clinic or by Telemedicine. The test is applicable for travellers who will be travelling from Singapore to a destination country that has a mandatory requirement to produce a negative COVID-19 PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test prior to entry into the county. Where can I do a Saliva Test and what do I need to bring?

Your Saliva Test can be done at any of our four clinics or via Telemedicine. and you will need to bring the following documentation:

  • NRIC
  • Passport

How do I prepare for the Saliva Test?

Please observe the following conditions before coming for the test:

  • You may collect the sample at any time of the day. For better accuracy, it is best to collect the sample in the morning before brushing your teeth.
  • Please DO NOT eat, drink, smoke, chew gum or brush your teeth for 30 minutes prior to the saliva sample collection.

What is the turnaround time for the Pre-Departure COVID-19 PCR Saliva Test?

After you have done the Pre-Departure COVID-19 PCR Test at our clinic, the test result is provided no later than 48 hours from the time of sample received in the clinic.

Who can take the Pre-Departure Saliva COVID-19 Test? Is there a minimum age limit?

Everybody can take the test, children and adults. There is no minimum age limit, provided that your child is able to understand and follow the instructions below:

  • Tilt your head backwards and allow the saliva to flow to the back of the throat.
  • Do not swallow.
  • Gargle for 3 seconds.
  • Spit the saliva into the collection funnel until it reaches the line on the tube.

If your child is not able to follow the instructions correctly on the day of the test, we will need to covert the test to a nasal pharyngeal swab test.

How will the test results be received?

If your test result comes back NEGATIVE, IMC will notify you via email of your result. You will receive a “Memo on COVID-19 real-time RT-PCR Saliva Test” (e-cert) with your test result clearly defined.

If your test results come back POSITIVE, a Doctor from the clinic will contact you to make necessary arrangements. You will not be permitted to travel.
